SRE takes majority ownership of Formosa 2, upbeat on Taiwan’s offshore wind market

風睿能源(Synera Renewable Energy)宣布完成海能風電(Formosa 2)股權收購,展現企業對該專案營運潛力的持續看好、以及對臺灣綠能永續發展的堅定承諾。.gifTaipei, May 13, 2025 – Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE Group), a pioneering offshore wind developer in Asia, today announced the acquisition of an additional 26% stake in Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm (Formosa 2), raising its ownership from 25% to a controlling 51%.

Amid global political and economic uncertainties, this meaningful transaction demonstrates the company’s continued belief in the wind farm and unwavering dedication to green energy. It also sends a powerful message to Taiwan’s offshore wind market—bolstering investor confidence both domestically and internationally.

Formosa 2 is the first offshore wind farm to achieve commercial operation among all projects in Taiwan’s second phase of offshore wind development. As a founding shareholder and developer, SRE recognizes the wind farm’s outstanding track record and socio-economic value. Committed to the long-term growth and stability of the local offshore wind market, the company firmly believes that all projects—whether in development, construction, or operation—should be fairly and appropriately valued.

In line with this principle, SRE exercised its right of first refusal (ROFR), held across all its assets, to acquire an additional 26% stake in Formosa 2. This move reflects the developer’s conviction that such investments should be driven by steadfast commitment rather than short-term market returns. It also underscores SRE’s determination to take decisive action when pricing no longer reflects the asset’s fair market value, thereby ensuring the stable and orderly growth of Taiwan's offshore wind sector.

Lucas Lin, Chairperson of SRE, stated: “SRE’s acquisition of an additional stake coincides with the second anniversary of Formosa 2’s commercial operation. The increased ownership allows us to further enhance the wind farm’s performance and governance, and to ensure a stable supply of clean energy that supports Taiwan’s export-oriented industries and strengthens confidence in the long-term, healthy development of the offshore wind sector.”

“Backed by the strong foundation, momentum, and team developed over the past twelve years in Taiwan, we have and will continue to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind power,” Lin added.

With extensive experience in renewable energy, SRE holds stakes in two operational offshore wind farms, Formosa 1 and Formosa 2, while actively developing Formosa 4 and Formosa 6 in Taiwan. It aims to achieve synergy in operations and maintenance across its portfolio, leveraging economies of scale as projects come online. Beyond its home market, the developer is also expanding its presence in Japan and South Korea.

Supported by Stonepeak, a leading New York-based alternative investment firm specializing in infrastructure and real assets with $72 billion in assets under management, SRE continues to strengthen its position in the APAC offshore wind market through strategic operational approaches and remains firmly committed to advancing the region’s energy transition.
