Formosa 6 Offshore Wind Farm is planned to be located off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan. This project marks Synera Renewable Energy (SRE)’s first venture into central Taiwan and holds significance for the company’s expanding footprint. With a maximum potential capacity of 1GW, Formosa 6 was awarded 800MW of development capacity in Phase 3-2 Offshore Wind Zonal Development by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in August 2024.
With the unveiling of Formosa 6 in early 2024, SRE has marked an industry first by sponsoring the “Analysis of Cetacean Stranding Patterns in Taiwan and Live Stranding Rescue Enhancement Project” led by a research team from the School of Veterinary Medicine at National Taiwan University. Driven by corporate social responsibility and inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water, we hope the professional analysis and scientific evidence provided by the esteemed academic institution will enhance understanding of risks facing cetaceans in waters surrounding Taiwan, both domestically and regionally, thereby facilitating the development of cross-border cooperation mechanisms and a more constructive conservation and response plan.
The cetacean project has been unanimously recognized by domestic and international scholars, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations in an academic review committee as "a highly significant report for Taiwan" and "a long-awaited report." It is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future conservation policies for marine life.
The “Analysis of Cetacean Stranding Patterns in Taiwan and Live Stranding Rescue Enhancement Project” is an independent research project scheduled to span one and a half years. Adhering to the principle of academic impartiality, SRE will not interfere with the research process, and the findings will be published both domestically and internationally in the future.
