Formosa 2

The first to enter commercial operation among all projects in Taiwan’s second phase of offshore wind development

Success in challenging times

Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm is the second large-scale offshore wind project Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) delivered for Taiwan. Weathering the COVID-19 pandemic and severe winter metocean conditions, Formosa 2 installed all wind turbines at the beginning of 2023, completed the grid connection in March, and entered commercial operation in August of the same year.

With strong support from Stonepeak, SRE played a crucial role in advancing the project in collaboration with an international team, fulfilling our role as a locally based developer with global expertise. This hard-earned achievement embodies our firm commitment to drive Taiwan’s energy transition and cements our position as a leader in offshore wind in Asia.

Trust and rapport with stakeholders

Formosa 2 dedicated itself to building win-win relationships with stakeholders. Its accomplishments in supply chain localization, talent development, and green education encompass the following: (a) signing a 20-year PPA with Taiwan Power Company; (b) collaborating closely with Taiwanese consulting firms; (c) conducting environmental surveys and analyses in partnership with academic institutes; (d) launching the “Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Program” for students in 2018 jointly with the National United University; (e) providing local fishermen with cetacean observation training in Miaoli County; and (f) holding children’s art competition under the theme of renewable energy to plant the seeds of sustainability that would grow and mature in our future generations.
